The cold months and dark nights are very much here. So we start looking through our wardrobes, swapping sunglasses, sandals and shorts for woolly hats, gloves and knitted jumpers. From one season to another, our clothes and footwear can differ a great deal (a great excuse for a shopping spree!). However, no matter the time of year, there’s nothing better than putting on a pair of comfy slippers at the end of a long, tiring day.

These days, there’s a huge variety of slipper designs, styles and shapes to pick from, but none as beneficial and baaa-rilliant as ones made from sheepskin.

Worn as early as 500BC, sheepskin has been used in footwear for thousands of years due to its natural properties. Popular in slipper styles such as moccasins, mules and boots, sheepskin doesn't just provide your feet with a little taste of heaven, it’s also beneficial to your health. We’re not kidding!

Why you need to invest in a pair of sheepskin slippers

1 . You can wear them all year round

Due to the wool’s hollow fibres, sheepskin has thermostatic properties, working as a natural insulator, meaning they are ideal summer slippers helping keep your feet stay cool and also as winter slippers to keep your feet toasty. Perfect for whatever weather comes your way!

2 . A durable, natural fit

When we mentioned that you’re able to wear sheepskin slippers all year round, you were probably thinking “hang on a minute, what slippers last that long?”. Well, wool fibres can bend an average of 20,000 times before ripping, giving you plenty of indoor walking miles and enduring comfort.

Whilst the price tag might be a little over the average price of most slippers, the quality is definitely reflected. The sole is super-sturdy and the foot bed molds to your foot shape, making it extra, extra snug!

3 . Perfect for allergy sufferers

Sheepskin contains a substance called lanolin, which is like that found in human skin. It helps to prevent rashes, and heal sensitive and inflamed skin, making it the perfect slipper material for allergy sufferers. Sheepskin has self-cleaning qualities, repelling dust mites and mildew, which is why it’s a popular material for baby products.

4 . Removes foot odour

Sheepskin slippers can absorb up to 33% of their own weight in moisture, but that’s not an excuse to wear them in the shower, even though you're going to want to wear them all the time!

Sweat is deposited into the air seven times faster than synthetic alternatives, so there’s no need for you to wear socks. This means you can make the most of the ultra-soft sheepskin between your naked toes and say goodbye to stinky feet.

5 . Enhances relaxation and regeneration

When we place our skin against sheepskin, it regulates our body temperature, activating our blood circulation and immune system. This promotes the relaxation and regeneration of our body. It’s even said to provide support to achy limbs!

Yes, sheepskin slippers can be a bit pricey, however, it is a case of quality over quantity. You can buy ‘faux’ sheepskin slippers at a cheaper price ( but not from us, as just don’t like it!) but expect to pay out more in the long-run due to them not lasting as long as the genuine article.

At Bedroom Athletics HQ, we would be wearing sheepskin slippers 24/7 if we could. But it’s not acceptable to be wearing your slippers shopping or out for dinner.... or is it? Hmmm...
