Let’s face it we’re all loving our slippers right now, and why not? Comfort is, well….comforting, especially when we’re continually faced with uncertainty. Some things we can’t wait to return to normal, while other lockdown living trends may well remain with us for some time.
Footwear has already been evolving for years as more and more of us ditch the heels and opt for trainers and flats. Part of the more recent footwear revolution has seen the humble slipper become more than just a house bound shoe.
Women’s Slippers have become a popular option to take outside of the home in the form of sheepskin lined slides, clogs, ballerina slippers etc., all with soles that can handle much tougher terrain than just the carpet.
Slip-ons in every imaginable colour are appearing in a multitude of style options, from closed toe suede and faux fur mules to open toe shearling slides, sling-back platforms, cushy flip flops (or thongs if you prefer) and felt clogs.
The latest ranges of ‘outdoor slippers’ crucially provide extra support for the foot too, many offering adjustable buckles, moulded footbeds, high quality linings and uppers along with all-terrain soles.
Balenciaga sent a pair of red fluffy slides down the runway for SS 21, Manolo Blahnik offered up the minimalist Anacletus suede and shearling slide and Stella McCartney created a padded and practical flip flop for the warmer months.
If you’re not prepared to spend big on your next comfort inducing footwear there are loads of options for every budget. We offer a great value real suede and Grade A sheepskin 2 buckle slide Mabel that really is a good indoor/outdoor option and then there’s the Maya slide for women and the Men’s versatile Efron slider.
The slipper shoe or house shoe (perhaps we need a new name for this evolved footwear?) is also impacting dedicated outdoor shoe trends with slip on mule loafers, lug sole hiking boots, and platforms with all of the height but none of the pain also proving popular options for the new SS 21 season.
Whichever option you choose this year, the new season footwear trends prove that you CAN have comfort and style combined, without compromising on either.
